The Gaiam Yoga Mat is a relatively new addition to my list. I've been using them for about 4-months and just love the peaceful meditation that it provides me.

The 6mm Extra Thickness ensures a good cushion, as well as a lighter weight even for a "thick" mat. It's perfect for seated postures, and definitely helps me get into postures that need an extra bit of support. It's also great to pop up to the wall for various balance stretches.

The mat provides good traction and grips well, though it can be slippery in the middle of the mat when you want to flip and transition to another pose. However, it's easily solved with just a stick hand towel — a good option consideration for a yoga mat.

This mat is made from eco-friendly, non-toxic materials. While I have used it on hardwood floors, I prefer a softer surface such as a carpet. Otherwise, I can go quite a bit of time without a mat slip-up in a seated corner pose or crossing the front body.

Trail Review – Anandashram

In the end, the Anandashram Yoga Mat is one of the best that I've used, which just means it's the best overall. While it's not necessarily the most technically advanced, it offers great comfort, traction, and material options.

Overall, Anandashram has a comfortable 6mm thickness, which is great to have if you're doing a lot of inversions or balancing poses. It's not too thick, and remains light enough to carry around. It's robust enough for both the indoor and outdoor varieties of yoga and allows for those hard-to-find extra-cushioned poses needed by anyone in their 50's and above. In short, it meets all the major requirements and offers good value for the money as well.

What Should You Buy?

All told, there are a few things worth looking into when considering which yoga mat to look at from Anandashram. For one, I'm a fan of the 6mm thickness as it provides just the cushion your joints need when doing a lot of inversions and balancing poses.
