If you are just starting out trying to get into some form of exercise, or if you have been doing it for a while and maybe are looking to take it up a notch, a thick foam mat is important. If you do your workout on a regular hard floor, it will still be pretty difficult for you to get the full range of motion for those poses that require a lot of arching and stretching and bending. But you also don't want a slippery mat that will result in a lot of aches and pains to say the least.
The nice thing about the Sivan Health and Fitness 1/2-Inch Extra Thick 71-Inch Long NBR Comfort Foam Yoga Mat for Exercise, Yoga, and Pilates is that it is indeed 1/2-inches thick. That's a lot of cushion for a lot of working out. Plus, it has a convex surface on one side with a concave surface on the other so you can place your feet on the mat without feeling like you are losing your grip on the floor.
At 71 inches long, the mat is still pretty long, so it won't take up a lot of room when storing it. To help keep it clean and to prolong its life, there is an integrated carry strap that you can hang your mat up.
We also like that the napping of the mat is purely foam rather than rubber as this gives it the look and feel of a real gym mat.
